Uncovering Truths – Time’s Tempest Lost Chapter 4 is now available for free download!

Uncovering Truths - ebook cover - 850

Now that Dezmind knows the truth about his past, he’s breached the Talian Compound in search of the key to his future. Dealing with the common citizens of Xannia’s largest city, Darzeth Prime, makes his search for the lost child difficult at best, impossible at worst. How much is he willing to risk to fulfil his destiny?

*     *     *

In my previous blog I touched on the ideas of fate, destiny and truth. These ideas are the fundamental thrust behind the main story Time’s Tempest.

Some citizens believe the government will handle the ensuing environmental crisis while others believe the government is only hiding the truth from the people.

One son of a high-ranking Council Member of the elite race of the Talians believes he knows the truth and leaves the safety of the Government Compound to prove his theories.

His first mission, as an impressionable 18 year old, is to find the lost child… for he’s certain his future, hers, and the state of the planet depend on it.

So, the question then stands… Do I believe in a pre-ordained or genetic destiny?

Quite frankly, I’m a fence sitter. There are days when I could swear my episodes of deja-vu come from dreams I dreamt in days past, and there are times I wonder at the puppetry the average citizen faces in the hands of the government. I’d like to think our destinies are wide open and susceptible to change with our independent choices… but on the other hand, how much freedom do we really have? Is it all a delusion? Is our genetic make-up as big a factor as some claim it is? Are we constantly trying to overcome our genes to achieve what we want to get out of this life?

Heady stuff, eh?

I started out by writing a story about a man with a vision and the woman who would set him straight… a quest, a journey, an adventure in a new land – but it became so much more.

I hope you will join me on this journey October 1st, when Time’s Tempest comes available for purchase in print and e-book.

Let’s raise a glass to diversity and the promise of tomorrow 😀

The Third Lost Chapter is now Available

The Platinum Hall Debacle – Time’s Tempest Lost Chapter 3 is now available for free download!

[The Gauntlet: Lost Chapter 1]     [A Probationary Effect: Lost Chapter 2]

The Platinum Hall Debacle - ebook cover - 850A contractor with the CTF demands a certain level of professionalism and respect. Taya’s newest employer doesn’t see a Contractor standing before him – he sees what he wants to: a little girl who isn’t worth his time. With a tight deadline for erecting the outdoor concert stage,  Taya challenges a growing prejudice as she risks her life and her livelihood.

Prejudice or Preconceived Notions

I’m sure you’ve faced this as some point on your personal life journey; being told:

“You’re too thin.”

“You’re too fat.”

“You’re too dark.”

“You’re too light.”

“You’re too weak.”

“You’re too meticulous.”

“You’re the wrong race.”

“You never finished high school.”

“You never went to graduate school.”

“You’re [fill int the blank] .”

We hit these walls in school, trying to get employment, entering new communities, and for various other reasons. My second summer working to find employment to help me save money for my second year at university brought this home for me on a personal level. I had signed up with various short term employment banks around the city when finally a job came available for which I qualified: A local older man needed help for a few days hauling paving stones around his yard in order to build a patio – general labour. I was fit and strong and ready to work. When I called to respond to the request for help, the guy basically said “no” outright. Not only was I a girl but he didn’t think I’d be strong enough to lift the pavers. Okay. I didn’t have the strength to lift heavy pavers over my head and dance a jig for him in his back yard, but I clearly thought I was strong enough to help otherwise I wouldn’t I have called.

Now, I doubt this guy considered his response as prejudiced. However, he clearly wanted a man with big muscles to come work for him. He wasn’t being sexist per-say, he probably thought he was simply being realistic. He didn’t think I was strong enough and didn’t want me to waste his time. When you’re desperate for work so that your money can be put toward something important in your life, that kind of off-hand slap in the face just ticks me off to no end.

What about you?

The Second Lost Chapter is Now Available

~

A Probationary Effect – Time’s Tempest Lost Chapter 2 is now available for free download!

[The Gauntlet: Lost Chapter 1]

A Probationary Effect - ebook cover - 850

Taya is finally released from her probationary status as a Contractor and can’t wait to dig into a more challenging assignment. However, the covert nature of this particular work has her second-guessing her new boss’s ethics and the validity of the contract. Will Taya be complicit in a crime and risk losing everything she’s trained for?

Working in the ‘Big Leagues’

Many of us have experienced odds-and-ends jobs when we were going through school: maybe you had your own lawn mowing service, driveway shoveling, paper route, fast food position, etc. and that was great. It put a little extra money in our pocket and gave us a bit of freedom from having to rely on our parents for, well, everything.

But what about the first day of the job you always wanted? Are you a tattoo artist? A teacher? A pilot? An insurance agent? How about a mechanic? or Graphic Designer? Hair stylist? Registered massage therapist?

How did you feel knowing you were apart of something bigger – a career instead of a job?

How did you feel when you made your first mistake? Were you humbled? Scared s**tless? Could you laugh it off or did you learn something about yourself and what you do that would stay with you always?

These are the moments that make up the larger journey of who we are. The choices we’ve made and the paths we’ve walked all add up to you and me today. Ultimately, that is what the Lost Chapters are… skipping stones that lead to one particular moment in life.

Come, spend some time with Taya, Zaith, and Dezmind as their decisions entangle them in a future known as Time’s Tempest.

The First Lost Chapter is Now Available for Free

It’s official everyone,

The Gauntlet – Time’s Tempest Lost Chapter 1 is now available for free download!

Final VersionThe Gauntlet is the first of four prequel “lost chapters” to the science fiction adventure Time’s Tempest, book one in the Chronicles of Xannia series.

These lost chapters are significant moments that are touched on briefly in the main story to allow for a sense of the characters’ history and prior experience. Acting as mini-episodes, the scenes in the lost chapters provide a glimpse into the foundation of the people and problems facing the planet of Xannia.

Knowing the content of these lost chapters is not essential to understanding and enjoying the novel Time’s Tempest; they are meant to enrich your experience and provide a deeper foundation for, and thus a greater appreciation of, the trials faced in the main story.

Taya was the youngest person ever to enter the Contractor Training Facility nearly 2 years ago. As she struggles to prove her abilities and capabilities both mentally and physically in this prestigious government-run school, she needs to find a way to balance her goals with her instructors’ expectations and deal with other students who are years older than she is. Learn about what happens behind the closed doors of the CTF and whether Taya will master her compulsions or be mastered by her insecurities.

One free Lost Chapter will be released each month leading up to the launch of The Chronicles of Xannia: Time’s Tempest on October 1st, 2014. I look forward to sharing with you my journey into new territory.
