Inspiration

You don’t need to be a writer or an artist to be inspired. Nature has always been able to take my breath away – and there’s so much about our own planet that I’m stilling learning about I can’t help but bring it into my work.

I’m sure you’ve heard of spelunking or, for the average joe/josephine, cave exploration. When I started looking into the natural sciences and geology for book two of The Chronicles of Xannia, Cadence of Consequences I was blown away by what I found.

It is indescribable what nature is capable of and these caves though they seem like something from a work of science fiction are real and reachable.

What you might find even more incredible is that when I tried explaining to an older, learned gentleman I used to work for that my fiction stories were in fact based on reality – he didn’t believe me. He could not comprehend the size and expansive nature of some of these natural caverns. He threw up a mental wall, shook his head condescendingly and never gave it a second thought.

I don’t know about you, but simply knowing these places exist is not enough – they are definitely on my bucket list of things to do and places to see. And I tell you what… I love that I was right – lol!

What inspires you? Where do you draw strength and a sense of purpose from in your life? And – what’s on your bucket list 😉 ? I’d love to know.

Live Interview on Blog-Talk-Radio

blog radioLast night I had a wonderful opportunity to speak about Time’s Tempest, read an excerpt and talk shop with Tom and Robin, hosts of The Writers Lounge on Blog-Talk-Radio.

As I’ve never done a “live” interview before, I’d gotten myself all worked up for this one with stomach butterflies and all but everything went smoothly… well, Tom did have a cold and his microphone stopped working at one point but it’s live right! and that’s what adds to the fun.

When you get a moment, check out the interview here 🙂

I happen to be one of those people who goes against the grain… if you tell me I can’t do something, I’ll do it just to spite you – case and point with my education. My father refused to pay for me to attend university to become a teacher – I spent one year in community college doing something I didn’t love on his dime before telling him I was going to university with our without his blessing… then, in university I was told I shouldn’t do a double practical placement with teaching and theatre production – I did it anyway and became the second person in the history of the school to have completed the feat.

I’ve been ornery and stubborn like this my whole life. I never bothered with makeup because I’d rather play sports at…

Writerly Rant #60

nanowrimo crest 2014 & knifeJust to put it out there, November is National Novel Writing Month (or NaNoWriMo for the uninitiated). I’m participating with the hundreds of thousands of authors around the world to write 50 thousand words in 30 days toward a new novel/writing project.

I hate it.

It’s time for me to run screaming from those who are completely impassioned by the month-long commitment. On the other hand, I know there are those of you who’ve tried it and not returned to the dark side for more torture. Yes, torture – for me anyway.

Now, I’m not saying that I can’t write 50K in a month… just not this month. I mean, I will, to complete my pledge and personal writing goal but due to where I live on this planet (Canada) and the fact that it’s been bloody cold for…
